Nick Reiner, 32, has been confined to a solitary cell at Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles following his arrest on December 15. The intake process for Reiner was notably expedited, reflecting the high-profile nature of his case, according to a police source.
Currently, he is under suicide watch and required to wear a blue suicide-prevention smock. His confinement includes limited contact with the outside world, and communication is restricted solely to legal counsel and authorized jail staff. Reiner can leave his cell only for court appearances and medical appointments, always under the supervision of an escort.
Reiner faces two counts of first-degree murder tied to the deaths of his parents, actor Rob Reiner, 78, and Michele Singer Reiner, 70. Their bodies were discovered in their Brentwood home on December 14, with the Medical Examiner’s office confirming they died from “multiple sharp force injuries.” The couple’s daughter, Romy, found them after receiving a call from a massage therapist concerned about a scheduled appointment.

Inside the facility, Reiner’s conditions are strict, with scheduled meals directly delivered to his cell. A police source confirmed that he remains under close observation, receiving checks every 15 minutes while on suicide watch. Despite ongoing mental health struggles, he has not attempted self-harm and remains in a largely isolated environment.
Reiner’s mental health was assessed upon his admission to jail, and it was determined that he is at risk. He will remain under suicide watch until medical clearance is provided, which may take considerable time based on his mental health needs.

Reiner made his initial court appearance on December 17, where he appeared in a blue anti-suicide smock and shackles. His attorney, Alan Jackson, did not enter a plea. The Los Angeles County district attorney may pursue a conviction with “special circumstances,” potentially making Reiner eligible for severe penalties, including life imprisonment or the death penalty.
His arraignment is set for January 7, 2026.
