New ‘Scary Movie’ Trailer at CinemaCon Mixes Humor with Thrills from Get Out, John Wick, and More
Paramount Unveils New Footage of "Scary Movie" at CinemaCon
Paramount Pictures revealed exciting new footage for the latest installment of the "Scary Movie" franchise, marking its first release since 2013, during Thursday’s CinemaCon event.
The preview opens with the iconic Ghostface character from the "Scream" films, featuring a humorous hypnotism sequence that includes Marlon Wayans, who quips, “I’m high as f*ck!” as he floats into another dimension.
Additional highlights from the footage showcase a variety of comedic scenarios: trick-or-treaters proclaiming “6-7” in a playful nod to the film "Weapons," an appearance by former "SNL" cast member Cheri Oteri in "The Substance," and Anna Faris delivering a comedic slap to a harmless mental patient from "Smile." Fans can also spot a quirky country music performance by the vampires from "Sinners" and Chris Elliott as "Longlegs," among other antics.
Wayans took the opportunity to promote the film alongside his co-stars, Shawn Wayans and Anna Faris, during the Las Vegas event. The trio addressed concerns surrounding the box office performance of R-rated comedies, with Faris asserting, “That’s fcking bullsht.”
In a light-hearted moment, Wayans presented a scroll of people he humorously claimed he might offend, apologizing to a diverse group that included “white people, Black people, off-white people, Mexicans, Mexican’ts, Asians, the entire state of Vermont, Diddy, Diddy’s cleaning lady, baby oil in general,” and others.
The new "Scary Movie" continues the story of the Core Four, who are once again targeted by a familiar masked killer—Ghostface—26 years after their initial escape. The cast reunites to satirize a range of horror tropes, including reboots, remakes, requels, and everything deemed "legacy" in the genre. With a promise to push boundaries, the Wayans aim to tackle cancel culture humorously.
Directed by Michael Tiddes, the film features a script by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans, and Rick Alvarez, based on characters created by Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, Buddy Johnson, Phil Beauman, and Jason Friedberg & Aaron Seltzer. The film is set to be released on June 5.
Producers include Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Alvarez, and Craig Wayans, with executive producers Jonathan Glickman, Thom Zadra, Alexandra Loewy, Marc Weinstock, and Marsha L. Swinton. The cast also includes Gregg Wayans, Kim Wayans, Benny Zielke, Cameron Scott Roberts, Dave Sheridan, Heidi Gardner, Lochlyn Munro, Olivia Rose Keegan, Ruby Snowber, Savannah Lee Nassif, and Sydney Park.
