New Harry Potter Series Teaser and Title Announced, Set for Christmas 2026 Release on HBO
Warner Bros. Discovery has officially announced the title, first trailer, and release date for its highly anticipated new Harry Potter series.
The unveiling took place at an event in London, coinciding with the launch of HBO Max in the UK.
Titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the series will debut globally on HBO Max on Christmas Day this year. The first trailer has also been released.
The logline states: There is nothing special about Harry Potter — at least, that’s what his Aunt Petunia always claims. However, on his 11th birthday, a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry reveals a hidden world of fun, friendship, and magic for Harry. With this new adventure comes significant risk as he confronts a dangerous enemy from his past.

The trailer showcases key characters including Harry, Aunt Petunia, Ron, Draco, Snape, Ollivander, Professor McGonagall, and Rubeus Hagrid. It offers glimpses of Harry facing bullying and receiving his invitation to Hogwarts.
“Your parents were the bravest, kindest people I’ve ever met … they stood up for what they think is right. … Next time I see you will be in Hogwarts,” Hagrid tells Potter. “Mr. Potter, I think we can expect great things from you,” Ollivander later adds.
HBO teased the first image from the series on Instagram, featuring Harry Potter, played by Dominic McLaughlin, in his Gryffindor cloak heading toward a Quidditch pitch.
In addition to McLaughlin, the series features Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, among others.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone will premiere on Christmas Day and will be exclusively available to stream on HBO Max in several recent launch markets, including Germany, Italy, the UK, and Ireland.
The series is penned by Succession duo Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod, with Gardiner as showrunner and executive producer. Mylod will direct multiple episodes while also serving as an executive producer.
Additionally, the series, based on J.K. Rowling’s beloved books, is co-produced by Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, along with David Heyman of Heyday Films.
