New Details on the Setting and Time Period for the Upcoming Netflix Series ‘Assassin’s Creed’ as Production Begins and Four Actors Join the Cast
After months of speculation, Netflix has confirmed that its upcoming Assassin’s Creed series will be set in Ancient Rome. This revelation follows earlier announcements about filming locations, notably Rome, Italy, although the specific time period had not been clear, given the games’ range spanning from ancient history to the early 20th century.
The series will present an original narrative separate from the video games, taking place in 64 AD, a year notably marked by the Great Fire of Rome during Emperor Nero’s reign.
Production has commenced, with filming primarily occurring at Cinecittà Studios, which features an established back lot representing Ancient Rome.
The cast is rounded out by four additional recurring actors: Sandra Guldberg-Kampp (Foundation, The Rain, Electric Child), Youssef Kerkour (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms), Mirren Mack (Hedda, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple), and Louis McCartney (Stranger Things: The First Shadow).
Previously announced cast members include leads Lola Petticrew and Toby Wallace, along with Zachary Hart, Laura Marcus, Tanzyn Crawford, Nabhann Rizwan, Claes Bang, Noomi Rapace, Ramzy Bedia, Sean Harris, and Corrado Invernizzi.
Assassin’s Creed is described as a high-octane thriller that revolves around a secret conflict between two mysterious factions: one aiming to determine humanity’s future through control and manipulation, and the other striving to uphold free will. The series will navigate pivotal historical events as its characters engage in this battle for humanity’s destiny.
Roberto Patino and David Wiener are serving as showrunners and executive producers, along with Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, Genevieve Jones from Ubisoft Film & Television, and Matt O’Toole.
The Assassin’s Creed franchise, with over 230 million units sold, stands as one of the best-selling series in video game history.
