Netflix to Create Documentary on Lucy Letby Case
Netflix is set to release a new documentary feature focusing on Lucy Letby, the former nurse currently serving a life sentence for the murders of seven infants and the attempted murders of seven others. Titled The Investigation of Lucy Letby, the documentary will premiere on February 4.
This feature-length documentary promises exclusive materials, including testimony from the British police who investigated the case and never-before-seen footage of Letby during her arrest and questioning.
Produced by ITN Productions, the documentary comes on the heels of previous works by the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and Channel 5, all of which have explored one of the most high-profile criminal trials in British history.
In an unprecedented move, the documentary will also include insights from the mother of one of the victims, sharing her experiences and involvement in Letby’s trial. This marks the first time a family member connected to the prosecution has contributed to a documentary on the case.
Letby’s case sent shockwaves through the UK, beginning with an investigation launched after a rise in unexpected infant deaths at the neonatal unit of the Countess of Chester Hospital, where she worked. In November 2020, she was charged with seven counts of murder and 15 counts of attempted murder concerning 17 babies. While she is currently serving a whole life sentence, recent discussions among experts have raised doubts about the evidence leading to her convictions. Such concerns are likely to be addressed in the upcoming Netflix documentary.
Dominic Sivyer, known for his work on Rebel Nun, is directing the film, with Caroline Short and Ian Rumsey serving as executive producers for ITN Productions.
In related news, Netflix recently announced plans for a UK documentary covering the tragic death of Tony Parsons, who was killed during a charity bike ride.
