Netflix Shares a Sneak Peek of the ‘Extraction’ Series as Omar Sy Finishes Filming in Ireland
Mercenary: An Extraction Series, the television spinoff of Netflix’s Chris Hemsworth-led action film franchise, has completed its production phase in Ireland and is now set to move to Morocco.
The streaming platform is generating excitement for the Omar Sy-starring series with its first look, featuring Sy in full military attire. (See the photo below.)
In this installment, Sy portrays a mercenary tasked with a perilous mission to rescue hostages in Libya. As he navigates a landscape rife with warring factions and brutal adversaries, he is forced to confront life-or-death decisions and deep-seated emotional scars.
Mercenary is led by showrunner Glen Mazzara, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Scott Nemes, and Chris Castaldi for AGBO, as well as Sam Hargrave, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin.
Directors Louise Hooper (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) and Tim Southam (Foundation) will each helm four episodes and act as executive producers for their respective episodes.
The series boasts a diverse cast, including Boyd Holbrook, Natalie Dormer, Waleed Zuaiter, Ed Speleers, Sacha Dhawan, Ross McCall, Pip Torrens, Sam Woolf, Michael Zananiri, Riyad Sliman, Muhannad Ben Amor, Aaron Heffernan, Jojo Macari, Theo Ogundipe, and Emma Appleton.
This show serves as an extension of the Extraction universe, which began with the first film released in 2020, penned by Joe Russo and directed by Sam Hargrave. A sequel has also premiered in 2023.
Additionally, a new film titled Tygo is in development in South Korea, featuring Blackpink’s Lalisa Manobal alongside Don Lee and Lee Jin-uk.
AGBO’s Chief Creative Officer, Angela Russo-Otstot, expressed enthusiasm for expanding this global franchise, noting a desire to explore the complex narratives of heroic yet flawed mercenaries, revealing universal themes through their stories.
