Netflix Mexico Secures Soccer Streaming Rights
Netflix is expanding its foray into sports with a significant new acquisition, securing the national soccer rights for Mexico. The streaming service has finalized a four-year agreement to broadcast the Concacaf Nations League Finals and the Concacaf Gold Cup tournaments.
These prestigious events are organized by the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football, commonly referred to as Concacaf, where national teams from the region compete.
Soccer enjoys enormous popularity in Mexico, where the national team is the current champion of the Nations League, having triumphed over Panama in last year’s final at SoFi Stadium in California.
As the host nation for this year’s World Cup, Mexico also holds the title for the latest Concacaf Gold Cup, a tournament featuring national teams from North America.
The Netflix partnership will commence next year, making the platform the exclusive home for the 2027 and 2029 editions of both competitions in Mexico.
The upcoming fifth edition of the Concacaf Nations League Finals is set for March 2027, with matches scheduled to take place at SoFi Stadium. Meanwhile, the 19th edition of the Concacaf Gold Cup will be held next summer.
Philippe Moggio, Concacaf General Secretary, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration: “We are very excited to partner with Netflix in Mexico as we continue to strengthen how fans connect with our premier national team competitions. We know that in Mexico, the passion for football is truly unique, and this agreement allows us to bring these competitions closer to millions of fans through a new platform. It also reflects our commitment to delivering high-quality access to tournaments that mean so much to our region.”
In preparation for the World Cup, Netflix Latin America is developing a variety of soccer-related projects. One notable project, Mexico 86, is a film by Diego Luna that explores how Mexico secured hosting rights for the iconic tournament.
Carolina Leconte, Vice President of Content for Mexico and Latin America Acquisitions at Netflix, stated, “At Netflix, we are increasingly investing in live events that connect with our audience’s greatest passions, and football is, without a doubt, the passion that unites us as Mexicans. Concacaf national team matches bring together millions of fans in Mexico like few other events can. We are thrilled that, over the coming years, fans in Mexico will be able to experience the Concacaf Nations League Finals and the Concacaf Gold Cup exclusively on Netflix, with no additional fees.”
