Netflix Announces New ‘13 Going On 30’ Reboot Starring Emily Bader and Logan Lerman, Directed by Brett Haley with Jennifer Garner as Executive Producer
Emily Bader and Logan Lerman to Star in ’13 Going on 30′ Reboot for Netflix
Emily Bader, known for her role in People We Meet on Vacation, and Logan Lerman, recognized for Oh, Hi!, will headline a reboot of the beloved 2004 film 13 Going on 30, currently in development at Netflix. Jennifer Garner, who starred in the original film, is attached as an executive producer.
Bader reunites with director Brett Haley, following the success of their previous collaboration, which enjoyed four weeks on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Movies (English) and reached the Top 10 in 92 countries. Sources indicate that Bader and Haley were eager to work together again, viewing the 13 Going on 30 reboot as an ideal opportunity, with Lerman envisioned as Bader’s romantic lead from the outset.
Details regarding the plot remain undisclosed. Haley will direct from a script crafted by Hannah Marks, with revisions by Flora Greeson.
Production duties will be handled by Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum for RK Films, with Garner executive producing alongside Donna Roth, Susan Arnold, Scott Hemming for Revolution Studios, Alyssa Altman for RK Films, and Marks.
Originally a Columbia Pictures release, 13 Going on 30 tells the story of Jenna Rink, portrayed by Christa B. Allen, a 13-year-old girl who magically awakens as her 30-year-old self, navigating the complexities of adulthood while rediscovering her identity. Garner played the adult version of Jenna, starring opposite Mark Ruffalo. The film grossed approximately $96 million worldwide and remains a nostalgic touchstone for many viewers, prompting the reboot’s development. Garner is also involved in a stage musical adaptation of the film, which premiered at the Manchester Opera House in September.
Director Brett Haley expressed excitement about Garner’s involvement, stating, “Jennifer Garner being on board as an executive producer, after playing such a big part of what made the original special, is especially meaningful. I also couldn’t be more excited to reunite with Emily Bader after People We Meet on Vacation. She and the amazingly talented Logan Lerman are a magical pairing. I feel incredibly lucky to be trusted with something that means so much to so many people.”
Following her recent success, Bader is set to portray soccer legend Mia Hamm in Netflix’s upcoming sports drama The 99’ers, based on Jeré Longman’s book The Girls of Summer: The US Women’s Soccer Team and How It Changed the World. She has also appeared in Prime Video’s My Lady Jane and the mob drama Fresh Kills.
Lerman’s recent projects include the dark comedy Oh, Hi!, which garnered attention at its Sundance premiere, and the fifth season of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building.
Haley has become an in-demand director for romantic films on Netflix, building on the success of People We Meet on Vacation, as well as All the Bright Places and All Together Now.
In addition to her role in The Last Thing He Told Me, Garner has signed on for the Netflix comedy One Attempt Remaining alongside John Cena and is producing and starring in the upcoming miniseries The Five-Star Weekend for Peacock.
Hannah Marks is represented by UTA, Untitled, and Circle Management + Production, while Flora Greeson is with UTA and Kaplan/Perrone.
