Ms. Pat Show Gets Renewed for a Sixth Season on Paramount+
BET Announces Renewal of The Ms. Pat Show for Sixth Season
In an exclusive update, BET has confirmed the renewal of The Ms. Pat Show for a sixth season. This upcoming season will mark one of the first original series to stream on Paramount+, the new streaming platform for BET content launching in June.
Created by comedian Patricia “Ms. Pat” Williams-Lee and Tony Award-nominated actor and playwright Jordan E. Cooper, the series draws inspiration from Williams-Lee’s memoir, Rabbit: The Autobiography of Ms. Pat. The show recently concluded its fifth season, consisting of eight episodes.
The Ms. Pat Show is an R-rated comedy focusing on the life of Pat Carson, portrayed by Williams-Lee. As the matriarch of a multi-generational African American family, Carson navigates a range of challenging topics throughout the series, including addiction, abortion, racism, LGBTQ+ issues, and systemic inequities, all conveyed with Williams-Lee’s signature humor and honesty.
The supporting cast features J. Bernard Calloway, Tami Roman, Vince Swann, Briyana Guadalupe, Theodore John Barnes, and Brittany Inge.
In a statement, BET emphasized that the series reflects its commitment to showcasing authentic Black experiences, fostering discussions around real-life challenges, and providing audiences with relatable content. “Through its fearless storytelling, the series continues to deepen its cultural impact,” the release noted.
During a recent conversation with Williams-Lee and Cooper, Williams-Lee expressed confidence that the transition to Paramount+ will not alter the show’s essence. “We don’t anticipate any changes,” she stated, highlighting the show’s existing foundation as it moves to a larger platform.
Cooper added, “We’re excited that now we will have a global audience for this world and these characters. We’re very much the kind of show that will be rooted in comedy first, so we don’t think we’re going to change the recipe at all.”
Cooper also reprised his role as Sadiq Shay in Season 5. Williams-Lee humorously remarked that Cooper has challenged her with storylines that resonate strongly with viewers, particularly in the latest season. Noteworthy episodes include Denise’s (Roman) major romantic arc, Janelle’s (Guadalupe) potential pregnancy, and Terry’s (Calloway) quest to find his father.
Further insights from their discussion will be shared soon. The first five seasons of the show are currently available on BET+.
The Ms. Pat Show is produced by Imagine Entertainment, Cooper’s Cookout Entertainment, and Lee Daniels Entertainment. It features executive producers including Brian Grazer, Lee Daniels, Jon Radler, Deb Evans, Patrick Walsh, and Rose Catherine Pinkney, alongside Williams-Lee and Cooper. Director Mary Lou Belli has garnered three consecutive Emmy nominations for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series for her work on the show in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
In addition to her work on The Ms. Pat Show, Williams-Lee has also hosted three seasons of her unscripted series, Ms. Pat Settles It. She is represented by IAG, Tigerman Management, and Reed Smith.
