Movistar Plus+ Acquires ‘Lord Of The Flies’, ‘The Miniature Wife’, and Other Titles from Sony Pictures Television
EXCLUSIVE: Movistar Plus+ in Spain has acquired Jack Thorne’s highly anticipated drama Lord of the Flies as part of a comprehensive six-title agreement with Sony Pictures Television.
The deal also encompasses a range of other notable projects, including the psychological thriller American Hostage, dark comedy Up to No Good, British crime drama The Lady, period drama The Other Bennet Sister, and the relationship crisis series The Miniature Wife.
Lord of the Flies has been gaining international traction, with platforms like Netflix in the U.S., CBC in Canada, and HBO Max across parts of Europe featuring the series. Based on William Golding’s classic novel, the story revolves around a group of young boys stranded on a tropical island who struggle to maintain order. The cast includes Winston Sawyers, Lox Pratt, and David McKenna.
Set in the 1970s, American Hostage dramatizes the real-life events surrounding Fred Heckman, portrayed by Jon Hamm. Heckman, a popular radio reporter in Indianapolis, finds himself in a perilous situation when hostage-taker Tony Kiritsis, played by Giovanni Ribisi, demands an interview on-air. Meanwhile, Up to No Good stars Glenn Close as Maud Oldcastle, a tough and ruthless figure who also happens to be a killer. The cast expands to include Claudia Jessie, Gloria Obianyo, and Penelope Wilton.
Produced by Left Bank Pictures, The Lady chronicles the rise and fall of Jane Andrew, a former Buckingham Palace member turned convicted murderer, featuring Mia McKenna-Bruce, Ed Speleers, and Natalie Dormer.

The Other Bennet Sister, adapted from Janice Hadlow’s novel, navigates the world of Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice and stars Ella Bruccoleri, Richard E. Grant, Ruth Jones, and Richard Coyle. The Miniature Wife, produced by Media Res, explores the dynamics of marriage under extreme circumstances following a technological mishap that triggers a relationship crisis, featuring Elizabeth Banks and Matthew Macfadyen.
Mark Young, EVP of Distribution and Networks at Sony Pictures Television for the EMEA region, commented that this deal would “further extend” the long-standing partnership between Sony and Movistar Plus+. “This comprehensive collection really exemplifies the expansive storytelling power of Sony Pictures Television, and we have enjoyed a tremendous response to this premium slate since we premiered these titles at MIPCOM, Berlinale, and London Screenings,” he added.
In the previous year, Movistar Plus+ and Sony struck an agreement that guarantees Movistar Plus+ will remain the exclusive pay-1 home in Spain for Sony’s feature films following their theatrical and home entertainment releases.
