Mother’s Case Progresses in the Death of Emmanual Haro
Mother of Missing Infant Appears in Court Charged with Murder
In a case that has captured the attention of the Inland Empire community, 41-year-old Rebecca Haro appeared in court on Thursday, charged with the murder of her seven-month-old son, Emmanuel Haro. This development comes seven months after the infant was initially reported missing.
Rebecca Haro entered the courtroom with her hair concealing her face as proceedings moved towards trial. This moment follows the sentencing of her husband, Jake Haro, who received a life sentence in February for second-degree murder, a false police report, and child assault.
Emmanuel’s grandmother, Mary Beushausel, spoke outside the courtroom, expressing her devastation. "He destroyed my family, my children," she said. Beushausel had urged the judge to show no mercy during her son-in-law’s sentencing, lamenting, “He never gave me a chance to see my grandchildren and kept my daughter away. This has been horrible for us.”
The case traces back to August 14, when Emmanuel’s parents reported him missing from a shopping center in Yucaipa. At that time, Jake Haro publicly appealed for assistance in locating his son, describing Emmanuel as a “beautiful healthy baby boy” with distinctive features, including a lazy eye.
The search for the infant has drawn significant attention, spanning across various locations throughout the Inland Empire, including rural areas along the 60 Freeway. However, authorities have yet to locate Emmanuel’s remains, and he is now presumed dead.
Shortly after the missing persons report, both parents were arrested at their home in Cabazon, following investigations that revealed discrepancies in their statements.
Community members continue to rally around the case. Hemet resident Ashley Roe stated, “It’s been a rollercoaster. We have been here from the start. We call each other Emmanuel warriors, and we say we are his parents too because those people failed him.”
Looking forward, the Riverside County District Attorney’s office has indicated that several witnesses are prepared to testify during Rebecca Haro’s preliminary hearing, slated for May 29. The unfolding events in this tragic case remain closely monitored by both the public and local media.
