Orange County Woman Charged Following Collision Involving Teen Son and Vietnam Veteran
An Orange County woman faces multiple felony charges after her teenage son collided with an 81-year-old Vietnam veteran riding an electric motorcycle, authorities announced Wednesday.
Tommi Jo Mejer, a resident of Aliso Viejo, has been charged with felony child endangerment and felony accessory after the fact related to the April 16 incident in Lake Forest, which occurred at the intersection of Toledo Way and Ridge Route Drive, near El Toro High School. The victim, identified as a substitute teacher and a United States Marine Corps captain who served in combat missions during the Vietnam War, sustained critical injuries in the accident.
According to prosecutors, the incident involved Mejer’s 14-year-old son, who was riding a Surron E-motorcycle at the time of the collision. Following the accident, the teen fled the scene but was later apprehended at home after law enforcement executed a search warrant.
In addition to the felony charges, Mejer also faces a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a misdemeanor count for loaning a motor vehicle to an unlicensed driver, and a misdemeanor count of providing false information to a peace officer. If convicted on all counts, she could face a maximum sentence of six years and eight months in state prison.
