Misua Dies at 27: ‘Drag Race Philippines’ Star’s Passing Leads to Production Pause
Production Halted on Drag Race Philippines Following the Death of Contestant Misua
Production for Drag Race Philippines has been paused after the unexpected death of contestant Misua, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 27. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
The news was confirmed by the show and its producer, World of Wonder, through an announcement on Instagram.
“We are heartbroken to share that Misua, a talented Queen set to appear on season four of Drag Race Philippines, passed away in her sleep the morning of April 2. She brought light, artistry, and joy to those around her, and she will be deeply missed. We have paused production to care for and support our cast and crew during this incredibly difficult time. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and all who loved her. We are in contact with her family who have asked for privacy during this hard time,” the statement read.
Known as Jason Elvie Ty outside of her drag persona, Misua was a member of the Haus of LaFeya and performed at the Rampa Drag Club. Ty also pursued a career as a graphic designer.
Season four was in the early stages of filming at the time of Misua’s passing, and the lineup of queens has not yet been announced.
Misua’s family shared their grief on Facebook, stating, “Jayson was our dearly loved son, brother, friend, mentor, and most of all, Jayson is a star. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and close friends.”
The drag community has also expressed its sorrow. RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under contestant Hannah Conda commented on the Instagram post, saying, “Absolutely heartbreaking! My thoughts are with my Filo family. I love you all and sending my love! She was an absolute star!” Similarly, RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK vs. the World winner Blue Hydrangea remarked, “Devastating! Sending all my love to everyone involved ❤️🙌.”
