Mikael Granlund Shines with Two Goals in Ducks’ Win Against the Canucks
VANCOUVER, Canada — The Anaheim Ducks secured a 5-3 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night, buoyed by a standout performance from Mikael Granlund, who netted two goals. Alex Killorn contributed with a goal and an assist, while Mason McTavish and Troy Terry also found the back of the net. Ducks’ defenseman John Carlson recorded three assists, and goaltender Lukas Dostal made 27 saves.
The Ducks established a 2-1 lead in the second period, but the Canucks fought back, tying the game on two occasions. The crucial moment came when McTavish scored the game-winner just 5:45 into the third period.
Vancouver’s Jake DeBrusk, Brock Boeser, and Drew O’Connor also tallied goals, with Filip Hronek and Elias Pettersson each providing two assists. Canucks goalie Kevin Lankinen recorded 29 saves.
Notably, Pettersson’s second assist marked his 500th career regular-season point in the NHL, achieved in just 533 games. Only Thomas Gradin reached this milestone faster as a Canuck, doing so in 529 games.
The Ducks remain in first place in the Pacific Division, maintaining a five-point lead over the second-place Edmonton Oilers. Defenseman Radko Gudas returned to the lineup following a five-game suspension due to a knee-on-knee hit on Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews, which resulted in a torn knee ligament for Matthews that required season-ending surgery.
The Canucks displayed strength in special teams play, with DeBrusk and Boeser scoring on power plays. However, they struggled to ward off a prolonged five-on-three disadvantage, ultimately allowing Granlund to score during a late power play for Elias Pettersson.
The Ducks found themselves trailing 1-0 early in the game but outshot the Canucks 14-12 and responded with a pair of goals within just 2:24. McTavish’s goal, his first in 15 games, came from a powerful one-timer from the faceoff dot, extending the Ducks’ lead to 4-3.
