Middle School Student Detained for Bringing Loaded Gun to Redlands Campus
Middle School Student Arrested After Bringing Loaded Gun to Campus in Redlands
A middle school student was arrested Thursday at Moore Middle School in Redlands, California, after authorities discovered he had brought a loaded firearm to school, leading to a campus lockdown.
Redlands Police Department officers responded to the scene following reports from concerned students. Around lunchtime, another student informed school officials that the 12-year-old boy was displaying a bullet to classmates.
Administrators and campus security quickly detained the boy and located the loaded gun in his backpack. The school was placed on lockdown for several hours while authorities conducted a thorough search of the premises. Police later confirmed that no direct threats were made against the campus or its students and staff.
Investigators determined that the student had taken the firearm from his home with the intention of showing it to his peers. In a related incident, the boy’s parents were arrested for failing to store the weapon properly.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding suspicious activity in the area is encouraged to contact Redlands Police Dispatch at 909-798-7681 ext. 1.
