HBO’s The Last of Us Casts Key Siblings for Season 3
In an exciting development for fans of HBO’s acclaimed series The Last of Us, the show has officially cast two pivotal characters from the second game: Yara and Lev. Michelle Mao, known for her role in Bridgerton, will portray Yara, while Kyriana Kratter, who recently appeared in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, will take on the role of Lev.
Lev and Yara, members of the Seraphite faction, play significant roles in Abby Anderson’s storyline, the character expected to be central in the upcoming third and potentially final season. In the video game, Lev serves as a key partner and moral guide for Abby, whose narrative unfolds throughout the series.
Lev, as depicted in the game, is a 13-year-old transgender boy. HBO committed to an inclusive casting process for this role, attracting young talents from diverse backgrounds. Ultimately, Kratter, who is just 15 years old, secured the part.
Returning cast members for Season 3 include Kaitlyn Dever, Bella Ramsey, Isabela Merced, Gabriel Luna, and Jeffrey Wright. New additions to the lineup include Clea DuVall as a Seraphite and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. as Manny, following Danny Ramirez’s exit. Jason Ritter and Patrick Wilson are also set to appear in recurring roles as Hanley, a WLF soldier, and Abby’s father Jerry, respectively.
The Last of Us was co-created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, with Mazin taking the reins as the sole showrunner for Season 3, following his collaborative work in the first two seasons.
Kyriana Kratter has previously featured prominently in Disney+’s Star Wars: Skeleton Crew alongside Jude Law and Ryan Kiera Armstrong, and she also had a recurring role on Disney Channel’s Bunk’d. She is represented by Paradigm and Complete Management Group.
Michelle Mao recently gained recognition for her role as Rosamund, Sophie’s "evil" stepsister, in the fourth season of Netflix’s Bridgerton. Additionally, she stars in director Kogonada’s feature Zi, which premiered at Sundance in January, and she is represented by MGMT Entertainment, Allegory Creative Talent, and Gang, Tyre, Ramer.
