Michael Sheen Steps In for Richard Osman on ‘House of Games’
Michael Sheen Takes Over as Host of BBC’s House of Games
The BBC has announced that Michael Sheen will replace Richard Osman as the host of the popular quiz show House of Games. Osman, who created the show, revealed earlier this month that he would be stepping down after nearly a decade at the helm.
Sheen, known for his roles in Good Omens, Tron: Legacy, and Midnight in Paris, will lead the recording of 100 new episodes set to air later this year. Although he has not hosted a quiz show prior, he portrayed Chris Tarrant, the presenter of Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, in an ITV drama about the notorious Coughing Major scandal.
In House of Games, which was previously titled Richard Osman’s House of Games, celebrity contestants engage in various tasks throughout the week, earning double points on Fridays. The show is produced by the Banijay label Remarkable, which also produces Pointless, another show created and previously hosted by Osman. Osman is also an acclaimed author, known for the Thursday Murder Club novels, which were recently adapted into a Netflix film. He currently hosts the popular podcast Rest is Entertainment.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Sheen stated, “Quite literally very large shoes to fill but as a huge fan of the show I’m incredibly excited to be able to move into the House and at long last see my silhouette on a fondue set.”
BBC commissioner Caroline O’Neill praised Sheen’s charisma, remarking, “Michael’s charisma and passion for playfulness will be a joy for audiences, and we’ve no doubt he’ll relish throwing himself into a fiercely fought Answer Smash.”
