Michael Bolton’s Daughters Share Heartfelt Update on His Health: He’s Staying Positive After Glioblastoma Diagnosis
Michael Bolton’s Daughters Discuss Their Father’s Caregiving Journey
Michael Bolton’s daughters, Isa and Taryn, shared insights into their experiences as caregivers for the acclaimed singer, who was diagnosed with glioblastoma two years ago. The sisters, along with their sibling Holly, have been pivotal in supporting their father since his diagnosis.
In a recent interview with AARP.org, Isa expressed optimism about Bolton’s condition, stating, “We’re proud and happy to update anyone who has been interested in following [our Dad’s] journey that he is in very good spirits and very good health.” She noted the fluctuating nature of his health, acknowledging, “He has a lot of challenges… but in general, he’s very strong. His mobility and cognition have been terrific."
Taryn added that the atmosphere in their Connecticut home is uplifting, with Bolton maintaining a positive demeanor, saying he is “generally in a really good mood and just excited for the day.”
Bolton received his glioblastoma diagnosis, a particularly aggressive brain cancer, in December 2023. Following emergency surgery, doctors successfully removed a brain tumor. He completed a course of radiation and chemotherapy by October 2024 and now undergoes MRI scans every two months to monitor for recurrence, which has a high chance of about 90 percent.
In their conversation, Isa and Taryn elaborated on how Bolton’s condition has necessitated their caregiving roles. “We each help to honor him in various ways,” Isa explained, outlining their individual approaches to care. She added the importance of addressing both health needs and emotional support, emphasizing, “The pressure, the burden, is overwhelming sometimes.”
“It’s important to be good in yourself so that you can give the best care to your loved ones,” Taryn noted. AARP CEO Myechia Minter-Jordan remarked on the broader implications of their journey, highlighting the dedication of over 63 million family caregivers in the U.S. and advocating for more support for them.
Despite the challenges, the sisters value the increased time spent with their father, who has reduced his work commitments. “We probably had more meals with him in two years than we have our entire 50 years,” Isa said, appreciating the moments shared with family, including Bolton’s six grandchildren.
In a heartfelt email, Bolton reflected on the past year, stating, “This past year has tested me in ways I never imagined… My daughters have been constant in a way that grounds me."
The singer, who first publicly discussed his illness in January 2024 via Instagram, has focused on recovery with his family by his side. “I want to keep going. I feel there’s still a lot to do on the fight side,” he expressed, hopeful for the future.
In November, he shared a Thanksgiving message with his fans, writing, “Feeling extra grateful today for all the love, joy, and little moments that make life beautiful.” The post featured photos from a family celebration at home, further illustrating the deep connections that have been a source of strength during this difficult time.
