Meryl Streep on Lady Gaga’s Cameo in ‘Devil Wears Prada 2’: “I Had Her Number”
As Meryl Streep reprises her iconic role as Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada 2, she has welcomed a notable addition to the cast: Lady Gaga.
The highly anticipated sequel, currently in theaters, features a cameo by Gaga, which Streep confirmed she orchestrated. The three-time Oscar winner not only played a pivotal role in bringing Gaga to the project but also contributed to the film’s soundtrack.
"That turned out well," Streep shared on Jimmy Kimmel Live. "It was written there would be a pop star that would sing live on a runway in Milan. We were going to have this big show there. I thought, well why don’t we get Gaga, ’cause she’s so great, and she loves fashion, and… I had her number."
Streep described the initial conversation with Gaga, noting her enthusiasm. "I love this girl, I love her so much. She is so game. She just said, ‘Yeah.’ I said, ‘Well, I haven’t asked you what I’m going to ask you.’ She said, ‘Anything. What do you want?’"
The actress expressed excitement over Gaga’s involvement, remarking, "This was a big get for us. We were really, really thrilled, because she’s so spectacular. She’s written three songs for us. She’s a great actress, a little too good in the scene I had with her."
Gaga filmed her cameo during Milan Fashion Week and also stars in the music video for "Runway," her collaboration with Doechii from the soundtrack. She has since released songs titled "Shape of a Woman" and "Glamorous Life."
The Devil Wears Prada 2 not only features Streep’s return as Miranda Priestly but also sees the return of Anne Hathaway as Andi, Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton, and Stanley Tucci as Nigel Kipling.
Additionally, Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman reprise their roles from the original 2006 film. The cast is further bolstered by Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Rachel Bloom, Patrick Brammall, Conrad Ricamora, and, of course, Lady Gaga.
