Meryl Streep Celebrates ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ with a Stylish Cerulean Blue Sweater on ‘The Late Show’
Meryl Streep Prepares for The Devil Wears Prada 2 Premiere
Meryl Streep, renowned for her iconic roles, is set to return as Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada 2, which will premiere on May 1. During a recent appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Streep shared insights into the film’s storyline.
At 76, Streep showcased her vibrant style in a cerulean blue cable knit sweater, designed specifically for her by J. Crew. Complementing her look, she wore blue eyeglasses, silver hoop earrings, and a black leather watch.
“The media landscape has changed dramatically in 20 years,” Streep explained. “Andrea, played by Anne Hathaway, has pursued a successful career in journalism but finds herself out of a job due to the dominance of digital media. This situation eventually brings her back to Runway, unbeknownst to me, her former boss.”
The original film, released in 2006, famously featured a scene that discussed the significance of the color blue, a conversation that has since become embedded in popular culture. Streep’s character, Miranda, once critiqued Andy’s choice of a “lumpy blue sweater,” highlighting that it was not simply blue, but cerulean.
In a nod to the original, Hathaway recently revived the iconic color during the filming of the sequel, sharing a moment on TikTok dressed in a nearly identical sweater. In the post, she playfully captioned, “Heading to werk #dwp2,” garnering excitement from fans and friends. Comments included admiration from actress Ashley Benson, and fans quoting Streep’s memorable line about the nuances of blue.
As anticipation builds for the sequel, both Streep’s and Hathaway’s interpretations of their characters promise to resonate with audiences familiar with their journey in the fashion industry.
