Memory Of A Killer is Coming Back for Season 2 on Fox
Fox Renewed for Second Season of Memory of a Killer
Fox has officially renewed its freshman drama series, Memory of a Killer, for a second season. The announcement comes as the first season concludes with its finale tonight, April 6. This renewal follows the network’s recent decision to extend another new series, Best Medicine, which stars Josh Charles.
Aaron Zelman and Glenn Kessler will remain as showrunners for Memory of a Killer, which is based on the book and the 2003 Belgian film De Zaak Alzheimer. Zelman and Kessler took over midway through production of the series’ initial 10-episode season, succeeding original co-showrunners Ed Whitmore, Tracey Malone, and David Schulner.
Launched in January during the NFC Championship Game, Memory of a Killer has made a significant impact, attracting 16.2 million total viewers across various platforms and replays, as of April 4. The series also marked Fox’s most successful streamed drama debut in six years, attracting 1.9 million viewers, a record since 9-1-1: Lone Star premiered on January 19, 2020.
While the show’s linear ratings have seen a decline—common for serialized broadcast dramas—Memory of a Killer has maintained a strong presence on Hulu, where episodes are released the day after their television airing. Consistently ranking in Hulu’s Daily Top 10, the show commands a substantial streaming audience, with an average of 1.4 million viewers over seven-day viewing periods, which contributed to its renewal.
Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network, praised the show, stating, “Memory of a Killer has become a true standout with visceral performances from Patrick Dempsey and Michael Imperioli. Aaron Zelman, Glenn Kessler, and our partners at Warner Bros Television have delivered a sharp, emotional character-driven thriller that’s clearly landed with viewers, and we’re excited to continue that success together in Season 2.”
In the series, Dempsey plays Angelo Flannery/Doyle, a man leading a perilous double life, grappling with memory loss and uncovering the troubling circumstances surrounding his wife’s death. As danger threatens his pregnant daughter, Maria—played by Odeya Rush—Angelo is drawn into a web of his own past.
Imperioli portrays Dutch Forlanni, an accomplished chef whose restaurant serves as a cover for a criminal enterprise, further complicating Angelo’s life as his oldest friend and employer.
Channing Dungey, Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, expressed her enthusiasm for the renewal: “We’re thrilled Fox has renewed Memory of a Killer for a second season, a richly deserved renewal given the show’s great critical, creative, and commercial success. The performances of Patrick Dempsey and Michael Imperioli have been powerful and compelling, and we can’t wait to see what the show’s brilliant creative team has in store for Angelo’s next chapter.”
Memory of a Killer is produced by Warner Bros Television and Fox Entertainment, with executive producers including Dempsey, Zelman, and Kessler, alongside Arthur Sarkissian and Martin Campbell, as well as Peter Bouckaert of Eyeworks.
In addition to Best Medicine, Memory of a Killer joins the ranks of recently renewed Fox dramas such as Doc and the comedy Animal Control. The network is also set to bring back its core animated comedies for the upcoming season.
