NEED TO KNOW
- Jon Bernthal is both a dedicated actor and a father of three.
- The *His & Hers* star and his wife, Erin Angle, are parents to sons Henry and Billy, and daughter Adeline.
- Bernthal frequently discusses fatherhood and the challenges of raising his children.
Jon Bernthal, an Emmy Award-winning actor, prioritizes his role as a father above all else. He shares three children with his wife, Erin Angle, whom he married in 2010. Their family began with the birth of son Henry in 2011, followed by another son, Billy, in 2013, and daughter Adeline in 2015.
The Bernthal family faced a significant health scare in 2017 when Adeline was diagnosed with encephalitis and fell into a coma. Thankfully, she woke up days later, and Bernthal remarked in *Men’s Health* that Erin provided unwavering support during this difficult time.
Bernthal’s sons, both engaged in competitive sports, have been attending boxing classes, much like their father. He has shared family moments in the ring, highlighting their shared passion for the sport.
“By the way, I want them to learn how to play piano and do their schoolwork with the exact same level of fierceness,” Bernthal mentioned in a 2018 interview. “Whatever they do in this world, I’m okay with it, as long as they go full bore. That’s the real challenge of fatherhood, to try to divorce yourself from your own bulls–t and to realize I want these kids to be better than me. I don’t want them to make the same mistakes I did.”
Here’s a closer look at the lives of Jon Bernthal’s three children: Henry, Billy, and Adeline.

Henry, Jon Bernthal’s eldest son, was born in 2011. As a child, he began taking jiu-jitsu classes, a decision Bernthal shared with *The New York Times* in 2025. Inspired by his father’s love for boxing, the two share a strong bond through the sport. Bernthal often wears a pendant in honor of his son’s achievements.
While the relationship between father and son is strong, Bernthal has expressed difficulty with Henry’s gradual independence, sharing, “He’s doing something very natural, but it kills me.”
Despite Henry’s growing maturity, Bernthal conveys his affection on social media, referring to him as “My Best friend” in a December 2024 Instagram post.

Billy, the second son of Bernthal and Angle, was born in 2013. Following in his brother’s footsteps, he began jiu-jitsu at the age of two and also excels in competitive football and basketball.
Bernthal shares glimpses of Billy’s athletic journey, highlighting his role as a starting quarterback and showcasing his travel for games. In a humorous anecdote, he recalled how Billy’s quick reflexes saved the day during a haunted house visit.
While training his sons to be strong, Bernthal emphasizes the importance of kindness. “I want them to see kindness as masculine, not a sign of weakness,” he noted.

Adeline, the youngest of the Bernthal children, was born in 2015. At just two years old, she suffered a seizure and fell into a coma, a harrowing experience that Bernthal faced while filming *First Man*. He recalls how he stepped back from his career to care for her during this crisis.
Despite the circumstances, Adeline woke up after three days. Bernthal praised Erin for her calm and steadfast support during the ordeal, contrasting it with his own panic. “What I saw in my wife was courage and beauty unlike I’d ever seen,” he reflected.
Now, Adeline enjoys making paper cranes and spending time at a horse ranch. Her playful nature is evident in Bernthal’s social media posts, showcasing joyful family moments.
In a heartfelt tribute, he summed up his love for Adeline, stating, “I’ll always be The Man That Loves You The Most.”
