Maya Yoshida and Erik Thommy Guide Galaxy to Victory Against Austin FC
AUSTIN, Texas — The LA Galaxy secured a 2-1 victory over Austin FC on Saturday, showcasing a strong performance as defender Maya Yoshida and Erik Thommy contributed to the scoreboard.
Yoshida opened the scoring in the 34th minute, converting a pass from Marco Reus for his first goal of the season. This marks his sixth goal in 80 appearances for the Galaxy, while Reus now has three assists this season and 15 in 34 total matches with the team.
Thommy extended the Galaxy’s lead to 2-0 in the 78th minute, marking his inaugural goal for the club. Previously, he netted 19 goals in 101 appearances over four seasons with Sporting Kansas City. Additionally, defender Emiro Garces, who subbed in during the 66th minute, registered his first assist of the season, bringing his total to three assists in 36 matches. Goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski also contributed with an assist.
Austin FC managed to reduce the deficit in the 85th minute with a goal from Myrto Uzuni, his second of the season and eighth in 34 career matches. Defender Guilherme Biro collected his first assist after 67 appearances, while Facundo Torres notched his fourth assist of the season; all have come from set pieces.
Marcinkowski demonstrated skill between the posts, making five saves for the Galaxy, who now hold a record of 2-3-2 this season. For Austin, goalkeeper Brad Stuver also made five saves, while the team’s record stands at 1-3-3.
This match marked the Galaxy’s first road win of the season, while Austin suffered its first home loss. Notably, last season, Austin dominated the Galaxy in two encounters, winning both 1-0 at home and 2-1 away.
