Martin Short Celebrates “Sweetest Angel” Catherine O’Hara on Comedy Tour with Steve Martin
As Hollywood pays its respects to Catherine O’Hara, a fellow Canadian comedian has shared a heartfelt tribute.
After O’Hara’s passing at the age of 71 on Friday night, Martin Short, an alum of Second City Television (SCTV), honored her memory during a comedy show in Austin, Texas, alongside Steve Martin.
“Catherine O’Hara, I met her when she was 18 years of age, and all these years later, she’s been the greatest, most brilliant, kindest, sweetest angel that any of us worked with,” Short remarked in a video, raising a glass to the audience. “So, God bless Catherine.”
O’Hara’s journey began at Toronto’s Second City Theatre in 1974, where her talent contributed to the creation of the beloved sketch comedy show SCTV in 1976, alongside fellow performers including Eugene Levy.
She became renowned for memorable characters like lounge singer Lola Heatherton and Lorna Minnelli, earning an Emmy Award and four nominations for her writing on the show.
Short was part of the SCTV cast from 1982 to 1983, joining a legacy that includes comedy legends like John Candy, Harold Ramis, Joe Flaherty, Andrea Martin, Rick Moranis, and Dave Thomas.
