Production Begins on Final Season of Netflix’s Survival of the Thickest
Production has commenced in New York for the highly anticipated third and final season of Netflix’s Survival of the Thickest.
Marouane Zotti, who appeared as a recurring character in the first two seasons, has been elevated to a series regular for the upcoming season. The cast will also feature an array of guest stars, including Wanda Sykes, D.L. Hughley, Ashley Graham, Ronny Chieng, Wyatt Cenac, Jenna Lyons, Ice-T, LaQuan Smith, Charles Harbison, and Ashley Romans.
Inspired by Michelle Buteau’s book of essays, Survival of the Thickest stars Buteau as Mavis Beaumont, a black, plus-size woman navigating self-love and the pursuit of romance. As Mavis endeavors to build her brand as a stylist, she aims not only to survive but to thrive, supported by her chosen family and an empowering body-positive attitude.
Returning series regulars alongside Buteau include Tone Bell, Liza Treyger, Peppermint, Alecsys Proctor-Turner, Anthony Michael Lopez, Garcelle Beauvais, and RonReaco Lee.
Buteau and Danielle Sanchez-Witzel are the creators and executive producers of the series, with both making their directorial debuts in Season 3; Buteau will direct episode 5, while Sanchez-Witzel will oversee episode 3. Amy Aniobi will serve as the showrunner and executive producer for this season, also directing alongside Kim Nguyen. The series is being produced by A24 with executive producer Anne Hong from Mosaic.
