Mark Wahlberg Set to Star in Netflix’s New Action Thriller ‘The Operator’
Representatives from Netflix have declined to comment on an upcoming film starring Mark Wahlberg. The actor plays an ex-Tier One Operator who supports the CIA as an invisible clean-up man. When tasked with escorting his most despised target to safety, the assignment evolves into a perilous game of survival.
This project signifies a continued collaboration between Wahlberg and his producing partner, Stephen Levinson, and Netflix. The duo has previously worked together on several films, including Spenser Confidential, The Union, and Me Time.
The Picture Company’s Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona will produce the film along with Wahlberg and Levinson’s Municipal Pictures. Scott Glassgold from 12:01 Films is also involved, with Ǫuery serving as an executive producer. A search for the film’s director is currently underway.

Notably, this marks Query’s second sale to Netflix within a fortnight. The streaming service has also secured his Joel Edgerton action series, Trigger Point, which will be directed and executive produced by Jeremy Saulnier. Query will serve as showrunner and executive producer for the project he created.
Wahlberg, recently seen in Lionsgate’s Flight Risk, Apple’s Family Plan, and Amazon MGM’s Play Dirty, has a busy schedule ahead. His future projects include Peter Farrelly’s Amazon MGM action comedy Balls Up, the crime thriller By Any Means from The Inspection’s Elegance Bratton, the animated series Ted: The Animated Series for Peacock, and a new film directed by Stephen Chbosky for Apple TV. This year has been particularly fruitful for Query, who recently generated competitive bids for “Code Black,” a short story sold to Amazon MGM, where he will adapt it with Jake Gyllenhaal as both star and producer alongside Sixth & Idaho and 12:01 Films. Earlier this year, his action feature Heads of State, starring John Cena and Idris Elba, became Prime Video’s fourth-most-streamed movie of all time. Query is also co-creator and executive producer of a limited series on JonBenét Ramsey for Paramount+/101 Studios, featuring Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen. He is represented by CAA, Ground Control, and Jeff Frankel.
Coming off a Best Picture nomination for A Complete Unknown, directed by James Mangold and starring Timothée Chalamet, The Picture Company is set to shoot the Amazon MGM thriller Tyrant next year, which will pair Charlize Theron with filmmaker David Weil. The company is also involved in David Gordon Green’s upcoming Supermax for Miramax and is represented by CAA.
Glassgold’s 12:01 Films has had a successful year, with multiple projects in development, including Fallen Astronaut at Apple, Ripped starring Dwayne Johnson at 20th Century Studios, and Drift at Paramount/Skydance. Glassgold is also set to adapt Query’s bestselling novel, My Wife And I Bought A Ranch, for Amazon MGM Studios. He is represented by Verve and attorney Jeff Frankel.
