Mark Delgado and Son Heung-Min Steer LAFC to a Win Against Dynamo
LAFC Defeats Houston Dynamo 2-0 Behind Strong Performances
HOUSTON — LAFC secured a 2-0 victory against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday night, bolstered by standout performances from Mark Delgado, who scored a goal and provided an assist, as well as two assists from Son Heung-Min. Hugo Lloris contributed to the win by maintaining a second consecutive clean sheet.
The match took a decisive turn late in the first half when Houston defender Antônio Carlos received a red card in the second minute of stoppage time, leaving the Dynamo to play a man down for the remainder of the game.
LAFC capitalized on the advantage early in the second half. In the 56th minute, Delgado found the net, assisted by Son and Denis Bouanga. This marked Delgado’s 26th career goal in 345 appearances. Bouanga tallied his second assist this season, bringing his career total to 22 in 103 appearances. Interestingly, he has never scored against Houston, his only opponent yet to concede a goal to him.
Stephen Eustáquio added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute, shortly after another Houston player, AgustÃn Bouzat, was sent off with a red card, leaving the Dynamo with only nine players. Son’s assist marked his third this season and sixth overall in 12 career appearances, while Delgado recorded his first assist of the season, increasing his career total to 44.
Lloris made two saves to secure the shutout. Previously, LAFC began the season with a strong 3-0 victory over defending MLS Cup champions Inter Miami.
On the opposing side, Jonathan Bond recorded four saves for the Dynamo, who had opened their season with a 2-1 win against the Chicago Fire.
With this victory, LAFC claims its first win in Houston since July 12, 2019, and maintains a favorable 8-5-5 record in their all-time series against the Dynamo. Coach Marc Dos Santos has guided the team to a perfect 4-0 start across all competitions, including two victories in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, where they outscored Real España 7-1 to secure a spot in the Round of 16.
Looking ahead, LAFC will face FC Dallas at BMO Stadium next Saturday.
