Marcello Hernández and Skyler Gisondo Cast as Shrek and Fiona’s Sons in Shrek 5
This Thanksgiving brings exciting news: Marcello Hernández of Saturday Night Live and Skyler Gisondo, known for his role in Superman, have been cast as the voices of Shrek and Fiona’s sons, Fergus and Farkle, in the upcoming Shrek 5.
They will join the beloved franchise cast, with Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz reprising their iconic roles as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona. Zendaya is also part of the cast, lending her voice to Shrek and Fiona’s daughter, Felicia.
The sequel, produced by DreamWorks Animation and Universal, is set to hit theaters on June 30, 2027.
Shrek 5 will be directed by franchise veterans Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn. Vernon has previously directed Shrek 2 and Madagascar 2 and is also the voice of the Gingerbread Man (Gingy) in the Shrek series. Dohrn has an extensive background with the franchise, having worked as a writer and artist on the second and third films, as well as Head of Story on the fourth. He also voiced Rumpelstiltskin in Shrek Forever After.
The film will be produced by Gina Shay, who has worked on the Trolls series, and Chris Meledandri, the Academy Award® nominee and CEO of Illumination, known for the Despicable Me and Minions franchises. Co-direction will come from Brad Ableson, recognized for his work on Minions: The Rise of Gru and The Simpsons.
The Shrek franchise has amassed nearly $3 billion globally, with the original movie, released in 2001, winning the first Oscar for Best Animated Feature. The series has inspired a global live-touring show, an award-winning Broadway musical that garnered eight Tony nominations and 12 Drama Desk nominations, as well as an immersive attraction in London and popular events across Universal Studios parks worldwide.
Hernández is represented by CAA, LBI Entertainment, and Patti Felkner, while Gisondo is represented by UTA, Untitled Entertainment, and Jackoway Tyerman.
