Marc DeBevoise Joins OverDrive as President After Leading Digital Strategy at ViacomCBS
Marc DeBevoise, a seasoned executive with a rich background at CBS and ViacomCBS, has been appointed as president of OverDrive, a company that collaborates with libraries and schools to provide digital resources. Previously, DeBevoise served as CEO of the video technology firm BrightCove.
OverDrive operates popular platforms such as the Kanopy video streaming service, along with e-book platforms Libby and Sora, aiming to enhance access to digital content for educational institutions.
As a key player in the launch of CBS All Access and other digital streaming services, DeBevoise climbed the ranks to become CEO of CBS Interactive and later held a similar role at ViacomCBS Digital, which has since been rebranded as Paramount. He led BrightCove from 2022 to 2025.
In addition to his executive roles, DeBevoise is an adjunct professor of digital strategy at New York University and serves on the board of The Door, a non-profit youth development organization based in New York City.

With increasing demand for digital materials in libraries and schools, DeBevoise’s leadership will focus on guiding OverDrive’s investments in technology and partnerships that aim to support educators, librarians, and learners, particularly as these institutions often navigate financial constraints.
Kanopy has garnered attention in the entertainment industry for its distinctive model. Funded by individual libraries, it offers a collection of 30,000 titles—from recent releases to classic films and episodic series—at no charge to cardholders at participating libraries. The service currently reaches approximately 45 million users in the U.S. and has established distribution agreements with various connected-TV partners. Last year, it began incorporating a small selection of original programming into its catalogue.
