Man Released on $600K Bail After Facing Kidnapping and Sexual Assault Charges Involving UCLA Students
Santa Monica Man Released on Bail Amid Kidnapping and Sexual Assault Allegations
SANTA MONICA, Calif. – Alexander Schecter, a 24-year-old man from Santa Monica, has been released from custody for the second time after posting $600,000 bail. This follows his arrest on Friday concerning allegations of kidnapping and sexual assault.
Schecter was initially taken into custody for an incident involving two female UCLA students earlier this month. According to UCLA police, Schecter reportedly prevented the students from exiting his vehicle during a drop-off on Landfair Avenue and threatened them, prompting the students to remain in the car as he drove them to Gayley Avenue.
Initially charged with kidnapping and false imprisonment, Schecter was released after posting bail. However, further investigations revealed additional serious allegations against him, including rape, robbery, extortion, and battery related to an incident on October 12, 2025, near Venice Boulevard and Clarington Avenue. Investigators have indicated that this earlier incident involved a victim without any known university affiliation.
Following the discovery of this new evidence, Schecter was re-arrested and booked at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Twin Towers Correctional Facility. His bail was again set at $600,000, and he has been released once more.
UCLA police are urging the public to come forward with any information regarding Schecter, as they believe there may be more victims. Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to reach out to the UCLA Police Department Investigations Division at 310-825-9371.
