Man Leaves Puppy Outside Animal Care Center in Mission Viejo
Heartbreaking Abandonment of Puppy Caught on Camera in Mission Viejo
A disturbing incident unfolded early on April 10 in Mission Viejo, where surveillance footage revealed a man abandoning a puppy outside a local animal urgent care facility. The video, released by Mission Viejo Animal Services, highlights the danger the puppy faced in the area known for its coyote population.
The recorded event, which occurred around 3:25 a.m., shows a man exiting a red four-door car and tossing the puppy through the railings of the facility’s front gate. Upon landing, the disoriented puppy looked toward the street as the man returned to his vehicle and drove away.
Despite the initial shock, the puppy made its way to the facility’s entrance, where a veterinary team provided immediate care and contacted Mission Viejo Animal Services.
“This is a deeply troubling and unacceptable act,” said Brynn Lavison, Director of Mission Viejo Animal Services. “There are safe, humane, and legal options for individuals who are unable to care for an animal. Abandoning a defenseless puppy in this manner not only endangers the animal but is also a violation of the law.”
Animal Services is currently investigating the matter as a case of abandonment, which is illegal under California law. The organization encourages those unable to care for pets to utilize resources that allow for the safe surrender of animals.
As for the puppy, it is now receiving care at the Mission Viejo facility and is reportedly doing well. Plans for its adoption may be forthcoming. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to identify the individual responsible for this act. Anyone with information is urged to contact Mission Viejo Animal Services at (949) 470-3045 or by email.
