Man Charged with Kidnapping Two UCLA Students and Assaulting a Woman in 2025
Police Investigate Potential Additional Victims in Kidnapping and Sexual Assault Cases
Authorities have arrested a man suspected of kidnapping two UCLA students and linked him to a separate sexual assault case from 2025, the UCLA Police Department announced on Tuesday.
The suspect, Alexander Schecter, a 24-year-old rideshare driver, was initially implicated in an incident on March 8 when he allegedly drove two UCLA students a half-mile along Gayley Avenue, preventing them from exiting the vehicle. Following the incident, police identified Schecter and charged him with kidnapping and false imprisonment. He posted bail shortly after his arrest but remained under investigation.
Further inquiries revealed Schecter’s connection to an unreported rape that occurred in West Los Angeles. According to police, a woman, who has no affiliation with UCLA, was assaulted in the early hours of October 12, 2025, near Venice Boulevard and Clarington Avenue.
On Friday, Schecter was arrested once more in connection with the sexual assault. He faces charges including rape by force, forcible oral copulation, robbery, extortion, and battery. His bail was set at $600,000, and he was released on bail the following day, according to jail records.
Investigators are concerned there may be additional unreported cases involving Schechter and are encouraging any victims to come forward with information.
Individuals with knowledge of the situation are urged to contact the UCLA Police Department Investigations Division at 310-825-9371.
