Magnitude 6.5 Earthquake Shakes Southern and Central Mexico
A powerful earthquake struck southern and central Mexico on Friday, interrupting President Claudia Sheinbaum’s first press briefing of the year as seismic alarms rang out.
The quake registered a preliminary magnitude of 6.5, with its epicenter located near the town of San Marcos in Guerrero, a state along the Pacific coast close to Acapulco, according to Mexico’s national seismological agency.
Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties following the event.
