Madeleine Rotzler’s ‘O Horizon’ is Coming to Theaters This Summer
Comedy Film O Horizon Set for June Release
O Horizon, a new comedy featuring Maria Bakalova and David Strathairn, is slated for theatrical release in June by Variance Films. The film is both written and directed by Madeleine Rotzler.
Following its debut on June 12 in New York, O Horizon will expand to Los Angeles and other markets starting June 19 and continuing into July.
The film tells the story of Abby, portrayed by Bakalova, a young neuroscientist who embarks on a thrilling romance while grappling with a significant career breakthrough and the recent loss of her father, played by Strathairn. Abby’s world is transformed when an emerging technology unexpectedly enables her to communicate with her father once more. Rotzler’s narrative explores themes of relationships in an age of rapidly evolving technologies.
O Horizon made its world premiere at the 40th Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where it earned the Panavision Spirit Award for Independent Cinema.
“I started writing about a world that I thought of as an alternate reality,” Rotzler remarked. “Just a few years later, it’s hardly alternative at all, which is a big reason I am excited for people to put away their screens and come experience this film together with strangers in a cool, dark room.”
In addition to Bakalova and Strathairn, the cast includes Adam Pally, Maggie Grace, Avi Nash, and Paulina Porizkova. The film is produced by Rotzler, Paul Nelson, Audry Tomassini, and Joseph Cross, with Mark Gill serving as executive producer.
