Luka Doncic Shines with 43 Points as Lakers Fend Off Pacers’ Comeback Attempt
Lakers Conclude Successful Road Trip with Win Against Pacers
INDIANAPOLIS — The Los Angeles Lakers secured a 137-130 victory over the Indiana Pacers, marking the final game of a successful six-game road trip. In a moment that encapsulated the team’s spirit, LeBron James, despite fatigue, opted to pass the ball to Jake LaRavia, who sealed the win with a decisive dunk.
The Lakers, with a record of 46-26, notched their fifth win of the road trip amid challenging circumstances. Luka Doncic continued to dazzle, scoring 43 points and adding seven assists, his 14th 40-point game of the season. This achievement puts him alongside elite company, as he extended his streak of scoring over 30 points to 11 consecutive games—tying a record held by himself and Stephen Curry.
Doncic’s performance was nothing short of spectacular. He dominated the first quarter, single-handedly scoring 21 points as the Lakers built a 45-28 lead. His energetic play included a lob to Maxi Kleber for a dunk, followed by a remarkable step-back three-pointer that energized the crowd.
The Lakers faced a struggling Pacers team, whose record now stands at 16-56. James provided valuable contributions with 23 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists, while Austin Reaves and Jaxson Hayes added 25 and 21 points, respectively. Hayes also achieved his first double-double of the season, including seven dunks among his nine made shots.
Despite the victory, the Lakers were without several key players due to injuries: Deandre Ayton (back soreness), Marcus Smart (right ankle contusion), and Rui Hachimura (right calf soreness). Smart and Hachimura remain day-to-day, and Ayton’s status was confirmed just before the game. Additionally, rookie Adou Thiero missed the matchup with left knee soreness after a brief stint in the G League.
Thiero’s journey has been tumultuous this season, marked by knee injuries that have hindered his performance. Recently, he played in a G League game before rejoining the Lakers, only to find himself limited due to ongoing discomfort.
As the Lakers continue their season, the implications of player injuries alongside impressive offensive performances will be crucial as they aim for playoff positioning.
