This victory marked the Kings’ first home win against the Lakers since March 13, 2024.
Luka Doncic was the standout player for the Lakers, scoring 42 points while grabbing seven rebounds and providing eight assists. This performance marked his seventh game of the season with at least 40 points, reinforcing his status as the NBA’s leading scorer. Los Angeles initially took an early lead, but the Kings dominated the game, never trailing for the final 38 minutes. Sacramento came back from an eight-point deficit in the first quarter, pulling ahead 57-41 late in the second, bolstered by Monk’s fifth 3-pointer of the night, alongside DeRozan’s relentless scoring.
James and Doncic were crucial in keeping the Lakers competitive, together accounting for 38 of Los Angeles’ 54 points in the first half. However, the Kings began the third quarter with a powerful 19-6 run, establishing a commanding 20-point lead that paved the way for their decisive victory.
Despite trailing for the entirety of the second half, the Lakers managed to close the gap to 102-95 early in the fourth quarter. A timely 3-pointer from Monk helped the Kings to reestablish their lead, maintaining control until the final buzzer.
