Luka Doncic Shares Update on His Playing Status for the Series
In the Western Conference semifinals, the Los Angeles Lakers find themselves down 1-0, and uncertainty looms over the return of star player Luka Doncic, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury. Initially assessed with an eight-week recovery timeline, Doncic’s participation in the playoffs remains doubtful.
Speaking to reporters for the first time since limping off the court at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City on April 2, Doncic provided an update on his condition. “I have improved enough to begin running,” he stated on Wednesday, but he has yet to progress to contact drills. This latest injury, a Grade 2 strain of the left hamstring, has proven particularly challenging for him. “It’s unlike any I’ve experienced because of its severity,” he added.
Following the injury, medical advice indicated that Doncic would need approximately two months for recovery. In pursuit of faster healing, he traveled to Spain for platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections, undergoing four treatments over two weeks.
As the Lakers navigate the playoffs without their leading scorer, they managed to advance through a tough six-game series against the Houston Rockets, despite also losing Austin Reaves to injury during the same game as Doncic. In their first game of the semifinals, the fourth-seeded Lakers were defeated 108-90 by the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder.
“It’s very frustrating,” Doncic remarked on his injury’s impact. “I don’t think people understand how frustrating it is. All I want to do is play basketball, especially at this time. It’s the best time to play basketball. I’m very proud of my team, but it’s been tough just to watch them.”
