Luka Doncic on the Edge of a Suspension with One More Technical Foul
Luka Doncic Faces Suspension Risk After 15th Technical Foul
DENVER — Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic is now just one technical foul away from an automatic one-game suspension following his 15th technical of the season. This occurred during the Mavericks’ 120-113 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Thursday night.
In a solid performance, Doncic posted 27 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists but received the technical foul with 5:43 remaining in the second quarter. Reflecting on the incident, Doncic stated, “Just because I yelled at him, I guess. That’s what he said. But I heard three other players say the exact same sentence and didn’t get a tech. And that’s my problem, you know, I was trying not to talk at all. This is the first thing I said — no warning or nothing.”
Referee Ed Malloy clarified after the game that Doncic was penalized for “using profanity directed towards a referee.”
Under NBA rules, players accumulate an automatic suspension upon receiving 16 technical fouls in a season. Doncic has reached this threshold twice previously, but the NBA chose to rescind his 16th technical on both occasions, allowing him to avoid suspension. When asked if he was confident he could avoid another technical foul, Doncic replied, “We’ll see. Can’t predict the future.”
