Lucy Liu Stuns in a Chic Velvet Little Black Dress Adorned with Sparkling Crystals
Lucy Liu Shines at Time Women of the Year Gala in Los Angeles
Actress Lucy Liu made a striking appearance at the Time Women of the Year Gala held in Los Angeles on March 10. Wearing a stunning black velvet dress by JW Anderson, Liu captivated onlookers with her elegant style and distinctive fashion choices.
The floor-length gown featured a deep-V neckline and intricate crystal tassel embellishments. Notable for its padded hips, the design echoes the panniers popularized in the 18th century, a style that was favored by royal figures such as Marie Antoinette, as noted by the Fashion Institute of Technology.
Liu complemented her outfit with Saint Laurent platform sandals, an Ahikoza clutch, and exquisite jewelry by Eliantte & Co., which included delicate diamond drop earrings and a striking necklace adorned with a large pink gemstone.
The former Charlie’s Angels star was styled by Lee Harris, who is also known for working with high-profile clients like Helen Mirren and Drew Barrymore.
Liu recently debuted a new hairstyle, with her long locks styled in loose barrel curls and parted down the middle, topped off with rosy blush and pink lipstick. This marks a return to longer hair after she showcased a shoulder-length cut last fall while promoting her film, Rosemead.
In Rosemead, which follows the complex relationship between a mother, Irene, played by Liu, and her son Joe, the film addresses themes of mental health and familial struggle following Joe’s schizophrenia diagnosis. This gripping narrative is based on a 2017 Los Angeles Times article that highlighted the dire choices faced by families grappling with mental illness.
Reflecting on the film’s creation, Liu explained, "As there was not a lot that was known about this family, the script had to be pieced together. In some ways, it’s a little bit of a thriller, because people know the final act and some of the details, and then the rest had to be kind of filled in, in order to understand the dynamic between Irene and her son."
