Long Beach Resident Catches Waves Amid Flooded Streets
Long Beach Man Advocates for Street Surfing as New Olympic Sport
A Long Beach resident made headlines recently by showcasing his unique take on surfing amidst the heavy rainfall that flooded local streets on Monday.
As water accumulated in various areas, De Leon seized the moment to creatively surf through the submerged roads. “I told my brother, I said, ‘Dude, put that truck in first gear, let’s go,’” he recounted in an interview with NBCLA.
While being towed slowly through the residential streets, De Leon skillfully held onto a rope, gliding across the water. He emphasized the importance of safety in his adventure, noting that he donned a helmet in some of the “sketchier parts of the surf.” Despite the challenging conditions, he expressed that the waves were appealing.
The spectacle has prompted discussions about whether street surfing could be embraced as an official Olympic sport in the future.
