Little House on the Prairie Returns for Season 2 on Netflix Before the Premiere
Netflix has announced the renewal of its eagerly anticipated reboot of Little House on the Prairie for a second season, a decision made before the series’ debut on July 9.
The new adaptation, inspired by Laura Ingalls Wilder’s beloved books, delves into the origin story of the American West. It features a prominent cast including Alice Halsey as the determined Laura Ingalls, Skywalker Hughes as Laura’s older sister Mary, Luke Bracey as Pa, and Crosby Fitzgerald as Ma.
Little House on the Prairie originally premiered on NBC in 1974, enjoying a successful nine-season run.
Produced by CBS Studios and Anonymous Content, the series is led by showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine, who executive produces alongside Joy Gorman Wettels of Joy Coalition, Trip Friendly from Friendly Family Productions, and Dana Fox and Susanna Fogel.
Trip Friendly, whose father Ed secured the TV and movie rights to the Wilder novels that led to the original NBC drama, initially sold the rights for a reboot to Paramount TV Studios and Anonymous Content in 2020.
“I’m incredibly grateful to our wonderful cast and crew, who put their hearts and hard work into making our first season come alive,” Sonnenshine said. “We can’t wait to share this new adaptation of the Little House books with the world, and we’re thrilled that Netflix is giving us the opportunity to continue the story.”
Jinny Howe, Netflix’s head of U.S. and Canada scripted series, expressed enthusiasm for the renewal, stating, “We are delighted to renew this beautiful reimagining of Little House on the Prairie for a second season ahead of its Netflix debut. The exceptional work by Rebecca Sonnenshine and the entire cast and crew on Season 1 has established a rich foundation of storytelling for years to come. With its hopeful spirit and emotional authenticity, we’re confident that Little House will deliver even more of what fans truly love.”
