Lily Collins Takes on the Role of Audrey Hepburn in New Film About the Making of ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ with a Script by Alena Smith
Lily Collins will portray Hollywood legend Audrey Hepburn in an upcoming film focused on the iconic actress and the making of her 1961 classic, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The project is being developed by Case Study Films in collaboration with Imagine Entertainment and producer Scott LaStaiti.
The screenplay will be adapted by Alena Smith, known for her work on Dickinson, from Sam Wasson’s bestselling book, Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M.: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and the Dawn of the Modern Woman. This book provides a comprehensive account of the film’s production and features notable figures such as Truman Capote, Edith Head, and director Blake Edwards, alongside Hepburn herself. Wasson captures the transformative era of the late 1950s, spotlighting the character of Holly Golightly, who challenged societal norms and significantly influenced fashion and film.
Hepburn, a defining figure of Hollywood’s Golden Age, won an Oscar for her performance in Roman Holiday and starred in several classics, including Sabrina and Funny Face. Breakfast at Tiffany’s, directed by Blake Edwards and based on Truman Capote’s novella, solidified her status as a global cultural icon. The film, which earned five Oscar nominations, won two awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song, and was inducted into the U.S. National Film Registry in 2012.
The production team includes Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody, and Justin Wilkes from Imagine Entertainment, with Marc Gilbar serving as executive producer and Joyce Choi overseeing development. Collins will also produce through Case Study Films, alongside Charlie McDowell and Alex Orlovsky. Sam Wasson and Brandon Millan will executive produce for Felix Farmer Productions, together with Michael Shamberg.
Currently, Collins stars in Netflix’s popular romantic dramedy Emily in Paris, which premiered its fifth season in December and has been renewed for a sixth. A nominee for both a Golden Globe and an Emmy, Collins not only produces the series but also co-produced the 2022 thriller Windfall, where she starred alongside Jesse Plemons and Jason Segel. Additionally, she co-founded Case Study Films in November 2022, which has recently announced plans for an Amazon MGM adaptation of Polly Pocket, featuring Collins as both star and producer.
Alena Smith, known for creating the Peabody Award-winning series Dickinson, is also an executive producer for FX’s upcoming limited series Cry Wolf. She is represented by WME and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
Imagine Entertainment, led by Grazer and Howard, has several notable projects in the pipeline, including a series adaptation of The ‘Burbs starring Keke Palmer and Jack Whitehall for NBC/Peacock, and a psychological thriller titled After the Hunt featuring Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield. Their upcoming film slate includes How to Rob a Bank and Whalefall, along with the anticipated Siegfried and Roy series Wild Things starring Jude Law and Andrew Garfield on Apple TV+.
