Lee Byunghun and Han Jimin to Star in ‘The Koreans’ on Disney+
Acclaimed actors Lee Byunghun, known for his role in Squid Game, and Han Jimin from Heavenly Ever After are set to headline the upcoming series The Koreans, a reimagining of FX’s The Americans. The show will be available for streaming on Disney+ globally and on Hulu in the United States.
Production of this highly anticipated series has officially commenced. Set against the backdrop of South Korea’s democratization and cultural transformation in the early 1990s, The Koreans will center around a middle-class family concealing a treacherous secret. Although they appear to be typical citizens to their friends, neighbors, and children, both parents are actually elite North Korean spies tasked with undermining the South from within. The narrative will explore themes of loyalty, identity, and love, whilst a determined Korean counterintelligence agent inches closer to unveiling their true identities.
Byunghun and Jimin will portray the undercover spies at the heart of this gripping tale.
The series is produced by Imaginus and Studio AA, directed by Ahn Gilho, and adapted by Park Eunkyo from FX’s The Americans, which aired for six seasons from 2013 to 2018.
Originally created by Joe Weisberg and produced by Weisberg and Joel Fields, The Americans garnered critical acclaim, winning a Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Drama and being recognized as an AFI TV Program of the Year for five consecutive seasons.
The Koreans adds to Disney+ APAC’s growing collection of Korean originals, which includes notable titles like Tempest, Made in Korea, and The Tyrant.
