LeBron James Will Sit Out Tonight’s Lakers Game Against San Antonio
LeBron James to Miss Game Against Spurs Due to Injuries
SAN ANTONIO — LeBron James will not play in the upcoming game against the San Antonio Spurs due to ongoing issues with right sciatica and left foot arthritis, the Los Angeles Lakers announced on Wednesday.
James has been a standout performer for the Lakers (23-11) during their current three-game winning streak, averaging 29 points per game in victories over the Memphis Grizzlies and New Orleans Pelicans. Notably, he and Luka Doncic each scored 30 points in a dominating win over the Pelicans.
Despite his recent success, the 41-year-old James, who had previously missed 14 games at the start of the season due to sciatica, acknowledged the strain of playing consecutive nights.
“His foot typically the day after a game is sore, so that’s the primary thing,” said coach JJ Redick ahead of the game. “We’re hoping that he gets to the point where he can play in back-to-backs with his body, but this stretch and this month, it’s going to be tough to say that.”
This latest absence marks the 17th game James will miss this season, putting his streak of 21 consecutive All-NBA selections in jeopardy. To remain eligible for postseason honors, players must participate in at least 65 games. The Lakers are entering a demanding January schedule, culminating in their longest trip of the year, an eight-game Grammy road trip.
Additionally, the Lakers will also be without Austin Reaves (calf), Rui Hachimura (calf), and Adou Thiero (knee). Hachimura was seen working out with the South Bay Lakers in Los Angeles on Wednesday as he works his way back to full fitness.
Guard Gabe Vincent, recovering from a back issue, is expected to play but will be on a minute restriction of approximately 18 minutes, according to Redick.
