LASD Recovers $7M in Stolen Cargo and Arrests 9 in Major Theft Operation
Major Organized Retail Theft Ring Disbanded in Southern California
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. – The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) has successfully dismantled a significant organized retail theft operation, recovering $7 million in stolen goods and an additional $1 million in cash. This extensive effort, which lasted three months, highlights the ongoing battle against cargo theft in the region.
The investigation, conducted by the Cargo Criminal Apprehension Team (CCATS), targeted theft operations across Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties. In total, 13 search warrants were executed, resulting in the arrest of nine suspects.
According to LASD reports, the stolen items varied widely, including high-end electronics, clothing branded by Disney, professional-grade tools, and popular beverages such as Monster Energy drinks. The operation involved 36 major companies as victims, with notable names including Amazon, Costco, LG, Sony, T.J. Maxx, and Marshalls.
The arrested individuals are facing multiple felony charges, including grand theft cargo, money laundering, and receiving stolen property. The case has been forwarded to the District Attorney’s office for further consideration.
This successful operation underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat organized retail crime and protect businesses in Southern California.
