LASD 911 and Business Lines Facing Service Disruption in the County
Outage Affects 911 Services Across Los Angeles County
Most Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) stations are currently facing significant outages impacting both 911 emergency services and direct business lines, according to officials on Thursday.
Deputy Daniel Dominguez from the LASD Sheriff Information Bureau confirmed that the department became aware of the issue shortly after 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. "The Department was notified of an outage affecting the Vesta System, a third-party public safety call-handling platform… impacting 9-1-1 calls within the Sheriff’s Department’s jurisdiction," he stated.
In response to the outage, LASD has implemented measures to ensure continuity in emergency response. "9-1-1 calls are being automatically redirected to patrol station business phone lines to help ensure continued emergency response coverage," the department announced in a public advisory. They further noted that department electricians have been deployed to assess the situation and are collaborating closely with the telecommunications provider to restore services as quickly as possible.
While the outage is widespread, not every station is affected. Those experiencing issues are posting updates on their social media accounts. The Palmdale Sheriff’s Station specifically confirmed that text-to-911 services are still operational. “At this time, 911 lines and Sheriff’s Station business lines are experiencing a countywide outage. Text-to-911 remains operational for Palmdale Sheriff’s Station,” the department noted in a post.
Residents unable to reach 911 by phone are encouraged to text 911 with their exact location, nature of the emergency, and name. Dispatch personnel are actively monitoring incoming emergency text messages.
“We appreciate the community’s understanding and want to reassure our residents that we are taking all necessary steps to maintain emergency response services while this issue is being resolved,” the advisory emphasized. “Department personnel are proactively planning for contingencies to ensure continuity of service and to limit any potential disruption to emergency response operations.”
Officials have asked the public to share this information with family, friends, and neighbors. While the situation is being closely monitored, there is currently no estimate on how long the outage will persist. Updates will be provided as they become available.
