LAPD Officers Respond to Shooting Incident in Downtown LA, Suspect Injured and Hospitalized
Gunfire Erupts Between LAPD Officers and Armed Suspect in Downtown LA
LOS ANGELES – An investigation is underway following a shootout early Thursday morning involving officers from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and an armed suspect in downtown Los Angeles.
The incident occurred around 4:10 a.m. near Seventh Street and Ceres Avenue. LAPD officials reported that a 911 call alerted them to a man living in an RV who was allegedly wielding a firearm and pointing it at bystanders in the Skid Row area.
Upon arriving at the scene, police officers surrounded the RV and initiated negotiations for a peaceful surrender. However, the situation escalated when the suspect exited the vehicle armed and opened fire on the officers. In response, police returned fire, striking the suspect.
Video footage from the scene captured a substantial police presence, with one cruiser positioned on the sidewalk. Subsequently, the suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
As of now, further details remain unclear. The identity and age of the suspect, as well as their current medical condition, have not been disclosed. While police confirmed they returned fire, it has not been established if the suspect’s injuries were solely due to police rounds or if a self-inflicted wound occurred during the confrontation.
In the wake of the shooting, the intersection of Seventh Street and Ceres Avenue, along with several nearby streets, remains closed as the investigation continues. Standard protocol dictates that multiple independent agencies will join the LAPD to conduct a thorough review of the use of force in this incident. Commuters are advised to avoid the Skid Row area throughout the morning.
