LOS ANGELES – A suspect was fatally shot by LAPD officers early Friday morning following a shooting at a gas station that left a man injured. The police presence was significant across several blocks in South Los Angeles as authorities responded to the incident.
The situation unfolded when officers responded around 1 a.m. to reports of a shooting at a gas station located near Vermont Avenue and Imperial Highway. Approximately ten minutes later, officers located a suspect a few blocks away at 112th Street and Vermont Avenue.
According to the LAPD, the suspect was armed with a handgun when officers engaged, resulting in the fatal confrontation. The LAPD’s Force Investigation Division is leading the investigation, gathering evidence, and reviewing the actions of the officers involved. Additionally, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent examination to assess whether the use of deadly force was legally justified.
As part of the ongoing investigation, detectives are interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence related to both the gas station shooting and the officer-involved shooting.
Unresolved Questions
The identity of the suspect has not been released, and it is still uncertain what circumstances led to the initial shooting at the gas station.
