LAPD Boosts Patrols Amid Rising Burglary Concerns in San Fernando Valley
LOS ANGELES – In response to a surge in home burglaries, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has directed the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) to intensify its patrol efforts in the San Fernando Valley. This initiative aims to address growing concerns among residents following a series of brazen incidents in the area.
The police response will concentrate on the Ventura Boulevard corridor, where increased officer visibility and advanced surveillance technology will be deployed. The LAPD’s Operations-Valley Bureau will send a combination of patrol officers, detectives, and specialized units to high-risk neighborhoods, including Sherman Oaks and Valley Glen.
“Residents deserve to feel safe in their communities, especially in their homes. We will continue to deploy the resources necessary to keep people safe,” Mayor Bass stated, emphasizing the city’s zero tolerance for recent burglaries.
Over the past week, several homes have been targeted during daylight hours. Notably, a residence on Davana Terrace in Sherman Oaks was burglarized on both Friday and Saturday nights, where suspects gained access by breaking a window. Additionally, a home on Macapa Drive in Hollywood Hills lost approximately $100,000 worth of jewelry, and local reports indicate that another property on Sylmar Avenue was also hit early Saturday morning.
While citywide burglary rates are reportedly down in 2026, local residents remain anxious due to these alarming incidents. LAPD crime statistics reveal a 45% decrease in burglary investigations compared to the same period in 2025 in the North Hollywood Division. Nevertheless, this trend does not lessen the urgency of the current situation.
Investigation teams are still determining whether the recent burglaries are linked to a single organized group or separate opportunistic offenders. As law enforcement continues to investigate, no arrests have been made related to the incidents in Sherman Oaks or Hollywood Hills.
Looking ahead, residents can anticipate an increase in community meetings led by Senior Lead Officers, aimed at enhancing home security and fostering neighborhood watch initiatives.
