Lance Bass, the acclaimed member of *NSYNC, recently shared his thoughts on the vibrant ’90s era in an interview with PEOPLE. At 46 years old, Bass provided insight into the fashion trends of his youth, highlighting both the nostalgia and absurdity of certain styles.
Reflecting on his past, he remarked, “It’s so funny, because living in the ’90s, I always thought the fashion was horrible. I just remember [thinking], ‘Really? This is what we’re doing?'” He continued, “Even then, I was like, ‘This does not feel good.'” However, he has come to appreciate the return of oversized clothing, stating, “I actually appreciate it more now… maybe that was kinda cool.”

Despite the fond memories, Bass was clear that not all ’90s trends deserve a revival. He expressed his disdain for digital pets, stating, “I was never one of those Tamagotchi people. I never Tama-got-it. I just thought it was the dumbest thing.” He added, “Yeah, that can stay back in that decade.”

Beyond fashion, *NSYNC also enjoyed a resurgence in popularity recently. Their hit “Bye Bye Bye” re-entered global music charts after being featured in the Deadpool & Wolverine movie soundtrack, breaking into the Top 10 of Billboard’s Global Excl. U.S. chart in August 2024, nearly 24 years after its initial release.
However, Bass revealed his preference for another track from *NSYNC’s iconic album, No Strings Attached. He stated, “The one I think that gets overlooked is a song called It Makes Me Ill. That was my favorite from No Strings Attached.” He elaborated, “I definitely fought for that to be a single, but we had other songs… it was hard to pick a single.”
In further embracing ’90s nostalgia, Bass has partnered with Bath & Body Works for their recent sale, reminiscing about discovering the brand through a former girlfriend. He recounted his fondness for gifting her pear-scented products, noting, “That always reminds me of my girlfriend in the ’90s. That always holds a special memory for me.”

In closing, Bass affirmed his continued affinity for the brand, stating, “I mean, I literally have a cabinet full of all of my favorite things, from the moisturizers to the fragrances to the candles.” He added, “I definitely stock up on all the candles. Lots of hand sanitizer.”
